Most children love being read to by their parents!

An Easter thought - are your children rich?
Most parents care about their children's welfare. Most of us are fortunate enough to know that the children closest to our hearts will have enough to eat today, will drink clean water, have free education, and access to free healthcare. Some children will have many other benefits besides – toys, games, outings, holidays, they will belong to clubs and follow hobbies of their choice, have a mobile phone, fashion items of various descriptions, and plenty of snacks and treats.

But once our children's immediate needs are met, what is their greatest need? It's not material things! Without a doubt, it is good relationships. Some are naturally loners by character, others prefer to be surrounded by people. Most will fall somewhere in the middle - but every single one needs to know that they are loved and valued, and to learn to love and value others in return. “Relationship poverty” is perhaps the worst kind of poverty. Even if money is tight, we all have the same 24 hours every day – let's make sure we spend our time by making others rich, including the children we most care about.

Every child is precious
And the most important relationship that any of us can have, of course is our relationship with God, because this relationship will last for eternity. The awesome thing about Easter is that we can have a relationship with God because of what Jesus did for us. He was despised and rejected, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And even then, he reached out to the lost, the lonely, the sick, the miserable (rich and poor alike), the heartbroken, the blind and the lost. Is there anything you could do to help the children you care about (whether in your own family, church children, neighbours or sponsored children) draw closer to God? Give it some thought – it might be the most vital thing you ever do in your life. We are called to follow Jesus' example. If you know a poor child, a sad child, a child who is ill, disabled, caught up in conflict, family trouble, who struggles at school or at home, anywhere in the world . . . perhaps you could reach out to them with love this Easter?

Me and my beautiful daughter!
Happy Mothers Day!
If you are a mum, happy Mother's Day for Sunday! This photo (right) is of me with my daughter at my wedding – the Lord has done great things for me! Life hasn't always been easy in my family (and no doubt there will be further battles to fight in the future!) but this I know from experience; Jesus is the one who gives peace in the midst of storms, who will not break a bruised reed, who promises to be with us always, who's grace is sufficient for us, whatever we are going through. So whatever is happening in your family at the moment, let me encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus :-)

Are you involved with an Easter holiday club?
Sadly, many Christian parents leave the spiritual development of their children to Sunday School teachers/youth workers. And some non-church children will have no spiritual input into their lives other than that which they will receive at church clubs and camps. This gives those of you who work with children in any type of Christian youth work a breathtaking responsibility! May the Lord bless you as you reach out with the good news this Easter time. Just for you, we have set up an offer on our website, for books at an excellent price. Go to
www.dernierpublishing.com and click on the OFFERS link. It's as easy as that!

Why buy books for children who come to clubs?
  • They can read the message in their own time, when things are less hectic
  • All our books are great stories and encouraging and inspiring reads!
  • Their families might read them too :-)
  • The good news you have taught is less likely to be forgotten, as their book will remind them
  • The Lord can work quietly in their own hearts as they read alone
If you don't have any responsibility for youth camps/clubs, but know someone who does, please pass this newsletter on to them – thank you :-)

Where do you buy yours?
If you can get down to your nearest Christian bookshop to buy our books, please do! If you're not sure where yours is, find it here: http://www.christianbookshops.org.uk/
If you can't get to a shop, you can also buy direct from our website with Paypal (no account required, free shipping to U.K. addresses) and from many other online stores. If you don't live in the U.K., you may be able to buy our books from Amazon and ebay in your local currency. As reported last month, two of our books are going to Australia (what an adventure for them!) - for those of you live down-under, please do buy as many copies of I Want to Be an Airline Pilot and The Birthday Shoes from Koorong shops as you can, so they will keep stocking them!
Thank you for your help - every child's life is so precious!
With grateful thanks for all your support and prayers,

Janet
P.S. Please don't forget to let us know if you would like to continue to receive our newsletters: info@dernierpublishing.com . . . and do take a look at our latest offer on our website: www.dernierpublishing.com . . . oh, and could you pass this newsletter on to two or three other people?
