February Newsletter

Welcome to the February 2012
Dernier Publishing newsletter !

Dark Books v Light Books!
I was chatting to a couple of mums yesterday who were bemoaning the fact that they found it difficult to buy suitable books for their older children. Searching through the shelves at Waterstones, they found that so many of the books contained a lot of 'dark' material. Many contain witchcraft, violence and ungodly relationships. Today's young people are having their minds filled with this, unless we intervene. When I was a child, children's books generally held nothing to harm. Evil was evil, baddies got their comeuppance, girl/boy relationships hardly figured. . . how things have changed! We need good Christian books with decent values for our young people like never before.
According to the Christian Research Association, three quarters of UK Christians were converted before the age of 20. This means that we need to be urgent and diligent in our task to reach as many young people as possible while they are still young; every one needs to hear the good news of Jesus. If you have not done so recently, why not take a look at the books on our website www.dernierpublishing.com and consider if there are any young people you could buy for – neighbours, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, friends, church youth club, local school or library. Words are powerful and who can tell, you may be encouraging future leaders, carers, people who will change the world for the next generation. All our books are of course available from your local bookshop too!

World Book Day, Thursday 1st March

Mary Weeks Millard (left) has been asked to talk to Year 2 children at St. John's Primary School in Weymouth on National Book Day and Eleanor Watkins (right) will be visiting a primary school near Brecon – do please pray for them :-) Might Book Day be a good opportunity (excuse?!) for you to buy a book for a child/children who might not otherwise have one, or as a gift for your child's school?

Beech Bank Girls on Revelation TV
I don't know if you saw Beech Bank Girls III being reviewed on Revelation TV just before Christmas? The producer kindly sent me the DVD of the programme - it was soooo encouraging! A young lad was interviewing a group of younger children; two girls had been given 'Beech Bank Girls, Christmas is Coming!' to read. Here are a few snatches from their conversation:
"What were the highlights of the book – were there any good points?"
“All of the book was good!”
"Were there any bad points?"
"No."
"How has the book affected you – has it changed your perspective on anything?"
“It's made me realise, whenever you need God and whatever trouble you're in, He is always there.”
"Would you recommend the book to your friends?"
“Definitely.”
How wonderful it is to know that our books are reaching young people! All three of the Beech Bank Girls books are available from your local bookshop and direct from www.dernierpublishing.com - don't delay, if you have 10-14 year-old girls who enjoy reading, buy them one today!
If money is tight, perhaps you could ask if they have it at your local library?
I was interviewed by the same young presenter this week – the programme does not yet have a slot in the schedule, but I hope to be able to let you know in advance . . . if you don't already follow us on Facebook, join us there, to keep in touch with with news as it happens!

Books make the best presents!
Ever had to dash to the shops at the last minute to buy a birthday present for one of your children's friends? They get invited to so many parties these days! Why not keep a stock of good books in hand, then whenever you need a gift, you will always have something ready! Not only that, you will have the excellent opportunity to sow some good seeds in a child's life. Why not pop down to your local Christian bookshop or take a look at our website and buy a selection today – you need never be short of a gift ever again!

Final thought . . .
If there is something good that we can do, we should do it today, just in case tomorrow is too late. :-) With many thanks to you all for your prayers and your support – without you we would just have lots of nice books in boxes.
May the Lord bless you all,
Janet
